Introducing Sugar Artist Mark Seaman

 

 

Mark Seaman is the founder and cake stylist of Marked for Dessert, Chicago’s premier cake boutique.  Marked for Dessert specializes in distinctive wedding cakes featuring elegant hand-crafted sugar flowers of life-like gum paste and beautiful pulled sugar. 

 

Mark Seaman’s inspiration to become a pastry chef began when he was a small child.  He is following in the footsteps of his grandfather who owned and operated the Ideal Bakery in Sharon, PA for forty years.  His grandfather’s classic recipes provided a foundation for a unique array of products.  Mark later honed his culinary skills in the Baking and Pastry Arts program at the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago where he added contemporary techniques to his repertoire.

 

Mark developed his expertise in special occasion and wedding cake design through intensive training at the Wilton School of Cake Decorating and the International Sugar Art Collection School of Confectionary Art.  He has trained with leading cake decorators from around the world including Colette Peters, Nicholas Lodge, Jacquy Pfeiffer, and Rose Viacava de Ortega.

 

In recent years, Mark has created centerpiece cakes for a number of exclusive events, including the annual “Visions of Chocolate” Gala, The Celebrity Chair Auction, and the Women’s Jewelry Association’s annual meeting.  These works highlight Mark’s ability to blend tradition with current trends to achieve extraordinary results.

 

As an educator, Mark has given presentations on the cultural history of the wedding cake and is a guest instructor at area schools, including New Trier Extension in Northfield and the Wilton School of Cake Decorating.

 

The Marked for Dessert studio is a 1500-square foot professional kitchen situated in a creative arts building on Chicago’s North Side.  This setting provides the space and artistic inspiration necessary to produce works of sugar art.  Mark can duplicate a cake from a picture or design a unique one with you.  Any design is possible!

 

Mark is an active member of the International Cake Exploration Societé as well as the U.S. Pastry Alliance.
